How does jailbreaking my iphone effect my warranty?

Q. So i've had my iphone 3gs for about a month now. When i first got it, my camera was upside down.
My accelerometer was then broken and off center but i didnt know.

So i jailbroke my iphone within the first few weeks.
It then got worse and started titling sideways instead, so i restored it. ("Unjailbroked" it)
and went straight to the apple store.

They gave me a replacement today. Im thinking of jailbreaking it again, but apparently it effects your warranty (as i have just learnt) how?

A. It cancels it. You can't tamper with something and then expect the manufacturer to still replace/repair it. It sounds like you lucked out when you were able to get it replaced. Kudos to you for covering your tracks!

how do i get around getting caught if my iphone breaks while its jailbroken?
Q. ok, i bought an iphone 3gs and i had a friend jailbreak it for me, i also bought the insurance on the phone. but what should i do if the phone breaks while its jailbroken? i know if you have jailbroken iphone it voids your warrenty but im pretty sure thier is a way around it. all of you hackers and modders out there help!

A. Your warranty and insurance are 2 completely different things. Jailbreaking voids your warranty. However, the warranty does not cover any physical damage. It covers manufacturer's defects and software issues. In the past, Apple has often turned a blind eye toward jailbroken iPhones with warranty issues. Given their latest assault on the jailbreaking community, that may be changing.

Insurance is something that's only available from 3d parties. If the insurance policy voids when you jailbreak, you had better believe that the insurance company will be examining the phone under a microscope to see if your claim can be denied. That's what insuirance companies do.

Lost an iphone 3GS, how much will it cost to buy a new one?
Q. i recently lost my iphone 3GS which i bought less than a month ago. To buy a new one will i be able to pay the orig price of $199 and keep my number? i have a family plan btw. Will my warranty do anything to help?

A. You will have to pay full price. That's about $600. Your warranty only covers manufacturer's defects. You should have bought insurance from a 3d party.

It may be cheaper to cancel your contract, pay the ETF and start over.
