What should I know before buying a second hand iphone 4?

Q. So I've found a good deal for an iphone 4 but the thing I'm worried about obviously is getting scammed. I'm pretty sure it's not a China product but what I'm worried is things like if the iphone 4 is unlockable or not, the IMEI is blacklisted(do i have to worry about this too?)..What other factors should I include when buying this?

A. If the IMEI is blacklisted, it means that the phone is most likely stolen. (The only other possibility is that the phone belongs to an account that is delinquent) If you buy the phone and it is stolen, then you are in receipt of stolen property, which is a crime in itself.

A blacklisted phone will not work as a phone, and quite possibly will not work. At best you will have an overpriced iPod, at worst, you will have an overpriced paperweight.

Since the phone is blacklisted, I would back away from the sale, as it is an obvious scam.

How much would it cost to start a contract with ATT to buy an iphone 4?
Q. How much would it cost to start a contract with ATT to buy the new iphone 4 and then cancel. Please give me the specifics, because I'm sure its cheaper than 800 (on ebay). And I know about the SIM deal and can solve that, but just what plan would I purchase and what can I expect when I cancel?
Thanks.

A. If you purchase the 16 GB version of iPhone 4 with a new line of service, it will cost you $199 + tax. Then, on top of that, you will have to pay for at least the first month of service (let's say $75 on the cheapest end, including data, low-end voice service, tax, etc.). Then, you would have to pay a $375 early termination fee. So, without taxes on the phone, the total you are looking at is about $649. If you want the 32 GB version, add $100 and you are at $749.

How long will it take apple to fix the iphone 4 problems?
Q. Im planning on buying the new iphone 4 but ive heard that many of them are having problems like reception yellow dots on the screen etc.... how long will it take apple to fix this problem so i can buy it without these problems?

A. Not quite sure what that supposed Apple rep was talking about, but the iPhone 4 is for sale. Apple will not upgrade your 3G for free and Apple reps usually can't post things like this on behalf of the company. The yellow dots is actually a temporary issue. They fade away once you start using the device and they don't appear on very many units. The Signal issue only happens when you hold the phone a certain want and if you put a case on it you won't have any problems. These issues are hardware issues so Apple can't fix them still the next generation iPhone. Not a big deal though, many people are very happy with the iPhone 4.
