Will a Blackberry Storm sim car work to unlock a iphone for verizon?
Q. I have a Blackberry Storm and since it is verizons first phone to have a sim card i have been looking at getting an iPhone. is there a way you can unlock an iPhone for verizon and use the blackberry sim card?

A. Your Blackberry Storm is likely a combo GSM/CDMA phone, which is why it has a SIM card. The Verizon SIM card is actually only needed OUTSIDE the US to provide global roaming on a GSM network. Also, the phone only works on the GSM 900/1800 bands - the overseas bands. The SIM card is not used by the phone INSIDE the US since it runs on Verizon's incompatible CDMA network instead.

Theoretically, you could take that SIM card and put it into any unlocked GSM phone (an iPhone, for example) and it would work on the GSM network. However, you would be ROAMING and not on the Verizon CDMA network. Here in the US you'd be likely using AT&T's or T-Mobile's network, as they are the 2 dominant GSM carriers. Consequently, your bill will be outrageous as a result of the roaming. It would not be worth your while going this way in the US.

Now if you go overseas, using the Verizon SIM card may have some advantages. Running on your BB Storm phone it will likely connect (y default) to Vodafone's GSM network (Verizon's parent) in a wide range of countries, and give you attractive roaming rates. You could realize the same advantages using an iPhone when roaming overseas.

Hope this answers your question.
